Iowans Have a Voice at The People’s Hearing on Saturday, June 18 in Ames

A factory farm moratorium bill has been introduced every year since 2016 when Senator David Johnson heeded the calls of the Iowa Alliance for Responsible Agriculture (IARA) and introduced the first bill calling for a moratorium on new and expanded factory farms.

Yet despite growing legislative and statewide support, state legislators have refused to hold a public hearing on the moratorium bill or factory farm crisis in Iowa.

In response, IARA has organized The People’s Hearing on Saturday, June 18, bringing together farmers, neighbors, and experts to testify about the problems surrounding factory farms.  The testimony will be presented to a panel of respected experts: Representative Art Staed, University of Iowa’s Silvia Secchi and dairy farmer, former Iowa Secretary of Agriculture candidate, and JFAN Board Member Dr. Francis Thicke.

The hearing takes place in the Story County Conservation Center, located at McFarland Park, 56461 - 180th Street in Ames, IA from 1:00 – 3:00 pm with a social hour to follow. Learn more and RSVP here or register in person beginning at 12:30 pm.
