JFAN is Hiring a Half-time Communications and Operations Coordinator

​Jefferson County Farmers & Neighbors, Inc. (JFAN) is growing! We are looking for a half-time Communications and Operations Coordinator to expand our outreach and impact in Jefferson County and Iowa and to support the organization’s internal functions.

 

The Communications and Operations Coordinator will further develop our social media presence, support communications and fundraising efforts, and handle various operations and financial functions within the organization.

 

JFAN is a small 501c3 community organization founded in 2005 that works on the local, state, and national levels to protect Jefferson County and Iowa from factory farms. Candidates should have a strong interest in responsible, respectful and regenerative agricultural issues. Experience and knowledge of factory farm issues is preferred, but we will train the right candidate new to the factory farming issue.

 

The Communications and Operations Coordinator reports directly to the Executive Director. This is a half time position that has the potential to evolve into a full time position.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

 

Social Media:

 

  • Develop a social media strategy including expanding JFAN’s presence on Facebook and Instagram and building a presence on BlueSky, Threads and TikTok

  • Research, develop and design content including relevant articles, memes and short videos

  • Target social media posts to boost

 

Communications Support:

 

  • Send out prepared emails on Action Network

  • Update and build out the JFAN website

  • Write occasional articles for emails/website/newsletter

  • Proofread written materials

  • Upload YouTube videos

  • JFAN is a co-founder and member of the Iowa Alliance for Responsible Agriculture (IARA). Some of the communications and social media work will also encompass JFAN’s involvement in IARA 

 

Financial Responsibilities:

 

  • Handle expense and income recordkeeping

  • Prepare and send out donation acknowledgement letters including brief handwritten thank you notes

  • Track corporate sponsorship program and invoice participants

 

Fundraising – Annual Drive, Giving Tuesday, End-of-Year Pitch

 

  • Work with ED and board to creatively expand and execute marketing/fundraising strategy

  • Track and categorize donations

 

Miscellaneous:

 

  • Assist ED as needed with a variety of special projects including event organization and logistics

  • Handle and resolve administrative issues

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • 1-3 years business or nonprofit experience

  • Strong writing and communications skills

  • Very detailed oriented with excellent organizational skills

  • Experienced and competent tracking and organizing financial data using Excel spreadsheets.

  • Knowledgeable and experienced in Facebook and Instagram. Knowledgeable or able to learn and develop other social media platforms.

  • Good research skills

  • Some graphic design experience

  • Creative and able to think outside the box

  • Experienced and competent in both Microsoft 365 Online and Google Workspace

  • Experienced and adept working on a PC and Mac

  • Comfortable and adept at learning new programs and platforms

  • Able to multitask

  • Enjoy working both independently and collaboratively

  • Can comfortably handle occasional stress and deadlines

  • Supportive of JFAN’s mission

 

These Qualifications a Bonus If You Have Them:

 

  • Bachelors preferred but not required

  • Experience with Wix, Action Network, and Canva

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

 

  • This is a half-time position at 20 hours/week.

  • Flexible hours

  • Competitive salary

  • Hybrid position: on-site and remote

  • 1099 contract position
