If you're not happy about factory farms and their impact on your community and your Quality of Life, it is important that you let your elected public officials know your position. After all, we elect them and they are supposed to be representing our best interests. If they don't hear from their constituents, they often times think everything is OK. When people do take the time to write or e-mail them, since so few people do this, the impact is significant.

Note: Ms. Greiner is a member of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Appropriations Subcommittee. Her family runs a hog farm in Washington County. Ms. Greiner was instrumental in legislation that removed local control of CAFOs, and in other legislation that relaxes air quality standards for CAFOs. She also introduced House File 642 (which passed) that would preempt “a local governmental entity…from adopting or enforcing legislation which relates to the production, use, advertising, sale, distribution, storage, transportation, formulation, packaging, labeling, certification, or registration of agricultural seed.” A similar bill was introduced into the Iowa Senate.
